Itagüí
Medellín's busy southern neighbor, between Envigado and Sabaneta — the metro on its eastern edge and parks that fill up in the evening.
Itagüí is a municipality of its own in the south of the Aburrá Valley, bordered by Medellín, Envigado, Sabaneta and La Estrella. It grew up as the valley's industrial town and still works like one: dense, mostly flat and lived at street level. Line A of the metro runs along its eastern edge, with the Envigado and Itagüí stations, and the Central Mayorista, the valley's wholesale food market, is here. Parque Principal is the old center; Parque Simón Bolívar, on the Envigado side, is where the food stalls and bars gather in the evening.
This is a place people live and work rather than visit — apartment blocks, workshops and shops at street level, and evenings spent in the parks. What people come here for is position: Envigado's malls and restaurants are next door, the metro is close, and El Poblado is a short ride north.
