01Living here

San Diego sits in comuna 10, on the eastern edge of central Medellín, where the flat valley floor begins to climb. Avenida Las Palmas starts here and runs up the mountain toward Rionegro and the airport; Avenida El Poblado runs the other way, past the mall the barrio is named for, south toward Provenza.

This is a residential, lived-in pocket rather than a scene — apartment towers, older houses and a wooded ravine behind them, set where two of the city's main roads meet. What people come here for is position: downtown, El Poblado and the road to the airport are each minutes away, and a flat here costs less than the same flat a kilometer south.
